HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A woman is accused of fatally running over a man who was working under a vehicle before dragging him on Thursday.
The Houston Police Department said the incident happened at about 7:45 a.m. near Antoine Drive and Sheraton Oaks.
HPD Capt. Ryan Watson said the man was working underneath a vehicle when a woman in the driver's seat hit the gas and took off in the car with him under it.
"She proceeded to turn southbound on Antoine, dragging him approximately two city blocks before he finally became dislodged from underneath the car," Watson said.
When officers arrived, they reportedly found the man dead.
Watson said officers located the vehicle involved, which had been ditched at a nearby apartment complex.
Investigators said they worked with the complex and business owners to see the suspect exit the vehicle and be picked up by another car, which was later tracked about five miles from the area.
"The suspect was located. She's detained at this time pending interviews and further investigation," Watson added. "We had a witness who said (the victim) was underneath the vehicle, which was a black SUV, and he was trying to fix something under it when the vehicle took off and dragged him."
HPD said the incident does not appear to be accidental at this time and added that it seems the suspect knew he was under the vehicle.
